We are of the firm belief that the guiding philosophy of right education, along with Buddhist teachings, can transform the lives of today’s youth. Also, we seriously believe a student nurtured around Buddhism can radiate the goodness of Load Buddha’s doctrines. Because we live in an era where practicing religious teachings is greatly influenced by societal influences, our attention to Buddhism will greatly inculcate the wellbeing of society.
At SBC, Matale, we conduct classes from primary, secondary, and all the way to collegiate. We prepare students to sit for the national scholarship exam (Grade 5), the General Certificate of Education (G.C.E) Ordinary Level (O/Ls) and the Advanced Level (A/Ls). Apart from classroom education, students can take part in extra-curricular activities and sports activities where they can take part in national sporting events.
The school was established in 2014, based upon a marvelous concept by the senior lecturer In the university of Rajarata, Ven.Galkulame Uparathana Thero, under the perfect guidance of the professor in university of Rajarata Ven. Olaganwatte Chandrasiri Thero.
At that time the school was inaugurated in a small land area as a government approved private school (none-aided). Mrs.Dhammika Thennakoon was appointed as the first principal. The chief objective was to create a well behaved, wise and noble child generation inculcated with Buddhist values in a surrounding based on Buddhism.
In 2017 school was shifted and re-established in No 09, irrigation office lane, Mc Road, Matale.
In 2018 school was registered as a Government approved (aided) school and at presents In excess of 1500 students and 100 of academic and none-academic staff include in it.
2014 වර්ෂයේ ශිෂ්‍ය ශිෂ්‍යාවන් 75 දෙනෙකුගේ මාතලේ පුරවරයේ ආරම්භ කරන ලද අප විද්‍යාලය ශ්‍රී ලංකා රජරට විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයේ ජ්‍යෙෂ්ඨ කථිකාචාර්ය පූජ්‍ය ගල්කුලමේ උපරතන හිමියන්ගේ සංකල්පයක් අනුව ශ්‍රී ලංකා රජරට විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයේ මහාචාර්ය පූජ්‍ය ඔලගන්වත්තේ චන්දසිරි නාහිමිපාණන් වහන්සේගේ පූර්ණ මඟපෙන්වීම යටතේ ආරම්භ කරන ලදි.
එවකට ඉතා කුඩා බිම් කොටසක් තුළ රජයේ අනුමත පෞද්ගලික (ආධාර නොලබන) පාසලක් ලෙස (Government Approved Private School – (None-Aided) ආරම්භ කළ අප විද්‍යාලයේ විදුහල්පතිනිය වූයේ එච්.එම්.ධම්මිකා තෙන්නකෝන් මැතිණියයි. බෞද්ධ ඉගෙනුම් පරිසරයක් තුළ මනා විනයකින් සහ ගුණ දහමින් පෝෂිත වූ දරු පරපුරක් නිර්මාණය කිරීමේ අරමුණින් එලෙස ආරම්භ වූ විද්‍යාලය වර්ෂ 2017 දී මාතලේ එම්.සී පාරේ අංක 09 වාරිමාර්ග මාවත ස්ථානයට රැගෙන යන ලදි.
2018 වර්ෂයේ රජයේ අනුමත උපකෘත (ආධාර ලබන) (Government approved aided school) ලෙස ලියාපදිංචි වූ අප විද්‍යාලය මේ වන විට සිසු දූ දරුවන් 1500 කට අධික ප්‍රමාණයකට අධ්‍යාපනය ලබා දෙන අතර, 100 ට අධික අධ්‍යයන අනධ්‍යයන කාර්යමණ්ඩලයකින් සමන්විත වේ.

The guiding philosophy of Sinhala Buddhist College, Matale is that right education along with Buddhist teachings can transform the lives of today’s youth, producing young, respectful citizens of character, who will in turn guide the fates of their respective societies. Thus, this is the underlining objective of setting up this school.
I am of the view that Buddhism encourages its people to avoid self-indulgence but also self-denial. Buddha’s most important teachings, known as the Four Noble Truths, are essential to understanding the religion. We at SBC Matale go to extra lengths to inculcate religious teachings to enrich the lives of students through our well-rounded activities centered around Buddhism.
The Sinhala Buddhist College, Matale, seeks to make learning an enriching experience due to the school curriculum being interlined with Buddhist teachings and philosophies. At the same time, we have taken great pains to make our learning experience enjoyable for both teachers and students.
We have strived to create an environment in which the student willingly accepts the challenges of becoming a respectful citizen who greatly values Buddhist religious teaching and who lives according to the precepts of the Buddha. We at SBC, Matale teach Sinhala and Tamil languages and also impart knowledge like IT skills, which are very much needed to survive in the new world order.
